As this pattern extends to well past 100% of your knitted measurement, it takes (relatively speaking) very little yarn. I used 250 meters of dk weight yarn.
4.0mm knitting needles

6 stitches = 1″ in garter stitch
Gauge not critical for project
Pattern Notes:
Cast on using the Cable Cast On Method.
Directions:
CO 30 Stitches
Rows 1-10: Knit.
Row 11: (RS) Bind off 9 stitches, knit to end.
Row 12: (WS) Bind off 9 stitches, knit to end, cast on 9 stitches.
Row 13: (RS) Knit to end, cast on 9 stitches.
Rows 14 – 20: Knit.
Row 21: (RS) Knit 6 stitches, bind off 18 stitches, knit to end.
Row 22: (WS) Knit 6 stitches, cast on 18 stitches, knit to end.
Continue 22 row pattern repeat (ending on Row 20) until there is just enough yarn to bind off.
Finishing:
Weave in all ends and block if desired.
